The stated purpose of Presbyterian Women is: “We commit ourselves to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study, to support the mission of the church world wide, to work for justice and peace, and to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (USA) and witnesses to the promise of God’s kingdom.” To pursue our purpose of nurturing our faith through Bible study, we hold monthly circle meetings on the third Wednesday of the month, from September through June. Our Bible studies are led by Dr. Emrich. Because we have experienced a decline in membership, due to health and other problems, the board voted to disband the formal association effective June 30, 2002. However, the women do continue with Bible studies, as well as supporting our scholarships and mission giving. To help support our scholarships and mission giving, the Presbyterian Women hold an annual cookie sale and craft display in December and a bake sale in the spring. Each year an honorary mission membership is given to honor one of our members. Our top priority in giving is our two scholarships for students attending Alma College. In addition, Presbyterian Women continues to support the Underground Railroad with contributions of new or gently used clothing, household linens, toilet articles, household items such as paper goods and cleaning supplies. We also support Emmaus House with contributions of clothing and household items. These are year-round ongoing projects. Presbyterian Women sponsors a prayer chain. Church members and friends can call on this group of members for special prayers by contacting the church office. While we continue to sponsor the Hospitality Teams who prepare and serve meals following funerals, participation in this project is by all members of the congregation, men and women alike. It is an important and appreciated mission.
